If there is one word to sum up 2020 for me it’s: G R A T I T U D E
Every year I pick a word to be the focus and guidance for the year ahead. At the start of this year I choose the word “grace” to guide me as I focused more on speaking words of, responding with, and walking through life with grace. However, my focus quickly changed in March when the world was thrown into turmoil as the pandemic started to hit the proverbial roof.⠀
⠀
I feel this year has been the year for reflection and examining our perspectives. It was the year 2020 after all, and the motto for optometrists everywhere was “the year of good vision” and what better place to start than within ourselves and then outwardly viewing the world around us. ⠀
So looking back on this year, I’m grateful for: ⠀
- my loving husband for being the amazing human he is and inspiring me to be the best version of myself every single day (and supporting me when I’m struggling)⠀
- ️being employed during the pandemic and able to continue providing financial stability to my husband and furkids. I know this simple act was an absolute luxury and blessing this year with many people’s employment impacted by the pandemic⠀
- my dedication to maintaining and improving my overall health – 2020 has reminded all of us just how fragile and important our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health is⠀
- making new and wonderful friends (online and offline) that have become good mates and inspire me, in various aspects of my life, daily⠀
- Fritz and Freya (my fur children) for their unconditional love and reminding me to be present in the moment. This simple yet effective mental health reminder is so important to helping me maintain a steady and positive mindset⠀
- technology for being able to keep me in contact with my friends and family around the world
Next year I’m going to focus on continuing the acknowledgment of gratitude in my daily life as I shift my focus on incorporating my new word for the year:
B A L A N C E ⠀
⠀
I want to approach everything I do next year with the notion of balance and harmony in mind. This could look like:
- making sure I have a work/life balance (no more working overtime almost every single day – I’m a workaholic and do this to myself)
- ensuring my social circle brings in a harmonious and balanced energy into be world
- maintaining a balanced flexitarian diet and feeding my body with nutritious food
- taking up hobbies that bring an element of harmony to my soul, that keep me emotionally, spiritually and mentally at equilibrium
- seeking therapy when I need it ⠀
What’s your word or resolutions for next year? Let me know on my instagram or leave it in the comments below.⠀
Until next time my dear friend, take care of yourself and others.
Much love,
Lara X
