“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” — Mary Oliver
For most, this is a question for a quiet Sunday morning. For me, it became a survival mandate.
Hi there, I’m Lara and the founding soul, writer, and storyteller behind The Rosé Nomad, an Australian personal lifestyle blog dedicated to intentional living, curated joy, and the beauty of an experience-rich life. A hippie-hearted, wine-sipping, book-collecting, joy-chasing woman building an intentional life with my husband and our rescue dogs. I’m proudly child-free by choice, endlessly curious, and devoted to living a life that feels beautifully and unapologetically mine.
I like to think of myself as equal parts wanderer and homebody. Somebody who finds magic in exploring different places and going to my local farmers market with the same enthusiasm. I believe in good wine, big feelings, soft living, deep conversations, and the kind of everyday luxuries that make life sweeter: a slow morning ritual, an (im)perfectly cooked meal, or a bucket-list moment checked off.
The catalyst
But my story didn’t start in wanderlust. It started in a doctor’s office when I was 23 years old. While my peers were figuring out their futures, I was figh I was told I had cancer – melanoma to be exact. After multiple surgeries and months of rehabilitation, I came through the other side, changed. While not yet enlightened, I was acutely aware that life is fragile and time is the only true currency we have.
For year, I let fear run my life. I was scared of the sun, scared of the cancer returning, scared of living too boldly because I was afraid it would all be taken away. So, instead of living my life, I was existing in fear of “what if”. It took years (and a fair bit of therapy) to understand that surviving something doesn’t automatically make you brave, you have to choose to be brave over and over again.
The philosophy of the List
So how did I become brave enough to live my life on my terms? It started with a promise to myself: a bucket list.
Not a dramatic “before I die” kind of list, but more of a manifesto to fill my life with experiences, to find beauty in small moments, to say “yes” more, and to explore more of what life has to offer. My bucket list is less about adrenaline and more about seeking out the rich experiences of life. From mastering my Nanna’s recipes, learning a language, discovering Australian wine regions, running City2Surf, exploring other countries and cutlure. What started as a simple list has evolved into a way of living, one that is shaped by curiousity and the luxury of agency.
The birth of The Rosé Nomad
The Rosé Nomad was born from a desire to speak courageously about the intentional choices that define us. For a long time, my journey was shaped by a simple promise: a bucket list of adventures designed to reclaim my life from fear. Today, that promise has evolved into a way of living. Whether it’s documenting the grit and glory of my latest bucket list challenge, finding healing in the ‘chosen family’ of my rescue dogs, or navigating a childfree lifestyle with pride, I wanted a space to share these stories openly. My goal is to create a community that inspires others to live boldly, explore endlessly, and feel empowered to design a life that is truly, unapologetically their own.
